Moi's Meme and Haiku Monday

Moi tagged me for a Meme. Below are the questions.

1. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun or The Boys Are Back in Town?
Sorry neither songs like these are the ones that caused me to meander away from rock and roll.
2. Camping or the Ritz?
If I'm with Mrs.K, the Ritz. If I'm by myself doesn't matter.
3. What food are you craving RIGHT NOW . . . did you eat it?
Sorry, I don't have cravings.
4. The most thrilling place you've ever visited. Why?
65° X 25°. It was the first time Mrs. K and I were offshore alone. We were sailing on a reach in about 20 knots of wind. The sun had just come up and sprays looked like pieces of crystal flying off to the lee. Everything seemed perfect.
5. If you could slip into the skin of one public figure--celebrity, artist, politician--who would it be?
President Obama. I would systematically start to undo the damage he has done. Starting with the department of justice the national labor relations board and so on from there.
7. Look up from your computer. What do you see?
A planning board, the door, a bookcase and an infra-red motion sensor.
8. Sum up your philosophy of life in one sentence. You can borrow it from someone else, if you'd like.
Command the situation don't let it command you.
9. The one thing you just don't understand about kids today.
It's not that I don't understand them. It's more frustration at not being able to explain or deter if you will, them being sucked into the culture of modern electronics and all the mind numbing media hype that goes with it.
10. If you could steal one work of art from a museum or gallery, which would it be?
When I read this question, the first thing that came to mind was what is the most expensive picture out there, I could resell. I recently heard the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:The_Scream.jpg was worth a lot of money, so that will be the one. I do have a print of Dance At Bougival by Renoir. I wouldn't want the original, someone would likely want to steal it and sell it.
11. Regular toothbrush or electric?
Regular, it will still work after an EMP. That way I'll be able to keep my teeth clean after it all hits the fan.

And on that happy note, Moi hope you enjoyed it. I won't tag anyone. If you're interested in doing them feel free. But, in all likelihood anyone that's going to do it, has already done it.

On to haiku: Foam won last week and is hosting this week. Her topic is silence. I know it's late. But you still have time to enter. 5-7-5 is the format. You can put up as many as you wish but she will only judge 2. You must tell her which ones to judge.

Early tranquil calm.
Broken by lovers embrace.
Two hearts beat as one.

Harmonic waves flow
with power spectral density.
Silence or white noise?

Under raging sea
Nuclear deterrent glide
Silent and unseen

Silversides motto:
I Came, I Saw, I Conquered.
In silent service.

I like the answer to number 8. My husband phrases it a bit differently: direct your own movie, don't let others direct it.

I was tagged on his one by the curmudgeon. I might still get to it.

I like all of your haiku. I would never have thought of subs. They are very awesome but I'd go nuts if I had to be on one. ... Claustrophobia, ya know.

You and Buzz both went with subs.

I like your answers, especially about sailing with the Mrs. That's a nice memory for you to have and you described it perfectly. AND, your view of infra red motion sensor makes me think; Mission Impossible! Hmmmm?

Foam: Great minds?

Do it, I'd look foward to your answers.

Thanks

Boxer: He beat me to the post.

You don't have a security sys. in your office?

Jenny said...

Yes, but you made yours sound like it was ARMED. :-)

(that was for Buzz.)

you handled that meme just how i expected, secret agent man. You gotta love the wisdom of a post EMP toothbrush and a silent sturgeon class sub. But you had me when you decided to sacrifice your romantic sailor's life to embody Obama to prosecute Eric Holder for treason and appoint a real AG. Karl 2012.

Way cool you got to dive among whale sharks??! Did you catch the most recent NG with the article on the Seas of Arabia - surprise bunch of whale sharks among the oil rigs found by accident on a facebook page. I guess these days you take data wherever it appears. What a lovely place you describe on deck with crystalline spray and the one you love. What couold be better?

Well, at least our haikus were from different times. I've been on a WW2 sub (Becuna - Balao class) but never a nuke. Almost got to go for a ride on a Los Angeles class but ti fell through at the last minute (one of the biggest disappointments of my life).

I like the Silversides haiku. Were you on her? And Mrs. Karl is a lucky girl.

Boxer: If by Armed you mean turned on. Only when I'm out of the office.

K9: clean teeth and fresh breath are important regardless of the state of Armageddon. Eric holder would be the first on the chopping block. Hmm 2012, Putin and I could have a lot of fun with the world for the next few years.

Serendipity: No unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity. I've swam with many kinds of sharks, but not Whale Sharks. Your haiku's wording brought them to mind. Actually I'm more than a little upset, about tourist industry that has developed around them.

Buzz Kill: Darn it's too bad it fell through, the VIP rides are pretty special. They've tapered off since the Greenville incident.

Thanks, I've been on Silversides, but not as a member of the crew. You know I keep trying to tell her just that. She keeps reminding me it's the other way around.

Ecotourism is a very two-edged sword. While encouraging locals to preserve such species, the human pressure put upon many of them cannot help but put enormous stress on many individuals. Sometimes it appears whale sharks and the like are animated carnival rides. *sigh* Still, it would be very cool to encounter one by happenstance, especially of the critter made the choice to come near.

Serendipity: I agree it is a two edge sword. However the locals are generally not the ones to gain from the ecotourism a good example is Belize or Jamaica. The locals receive subsistence from the tourist industry while millions are made at the expense of both the locals and the ecosystem that's being exploited. The reefs get destroyed by buffoons who think nothing of standing upon top of coral to let the water out of their mask. Honestly 98% of the people going to these venues should not be allowed to leave their tv sets.

That said, should I have the opportunity to encounter one. I will swim along as long as I'm capable, just to appreciate sharing the space with such a majestic being.

Hah! Brilliant move, slipping into Obama's skin. I hadn't thought of doing that. Then again, I'm not KARL :o)

However, I am gathering as much ammunition as I can against overwhelming odds lately, so will definitely include your Philosophy of Life in my arsenal.

Thanks so much for taking the time to play along!

Karl said...

Moi: Your welcome, it was fun. Also firing off some of the older ammunition not only keeps your magazine fresh, it keeps your skills sharp.

If I could get in Obama's skin, I'd start smoking a carton a day to see how long I'd last. If that went to slow I'd start drinking.

Curmudgeon: For the country sake, I think your method would be a bit slow.

Aunty Belle: So nice to see you out and about. I'm looking forward to Easter and your return.

No worries I'll get through it. He's dealing with some butterflies. Hoping that once he's out on the floor, it will all come together for him.

Karl,

Your thoughts are good but you need to make your syllable counts work better in both. You have time yet.

You can do comments as anonymous without filling in email etc. Just identify yourself in the comment post.
