Movie clip Wednesday: New York New York

Welcome to movie clip Wednesday this week's topic: New York New York. Hosted by the lovely Joanna Cake. If you care to play find a clip try to make it less than 3 minutes and go by Joanna's site and tell her you're up.

This would've been a very easy topic I knew the scene to show as soon as I read it. Unfortunately U-tube and the other video hosting sites have embedding disabled. So you'll only get a link. The movie? On the Town is a 1949 musical film with music by Leonard Bernstein and Roger Edens. It is an adaptation of the Broadway stage musical of the same name produced in 1944.

The film was directed by Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen, and stars Kelly, Frank Sinatra, Ann Miller, Betty Garrett, Jules Munshin, and Vera-Ellen and features Alice Pearce. 3 Sailors find love and laughter on a 24 hour shore leave in the big apple. Please enjoy.

Aunty Belle: I don't understand why they do it either.

You know, I've been around sailors and that's exactly how they act on shore leave - it's eerie.

And You Tube is the same story every week. Settling like a conservative in a liberal senate.

Happy MCW!

What they all said about movie embedding being disabled. Quite ridiculous.

I had so forgotten this movie but as soon as I saw those sailors running down the gangplank, I remembered.

I seem to recall Morecambe and Wise, two beloved comedians doing a sort of skit of this too.

Fantastic overview of NYC--full range of sightseeing in 3 minutes--not too bad! Add in a young Gene Kelly, an now ya got somethin'.

Boxer: A classic and a favorite of mine as well. Although I preferred Vera in White Christmas.

Buzz Kill: No those guys were to sober.

Joanna: I had to look up Morecambe and Wise. Now I'd kinda like to see some other stuff. Perhaps u-tube search is in order.

Aunty Belle: Kelly directed the film and insisted on the location shots. It wouldn't have been the same without them.
