Milk River Madman is our host this week, while Anonymous Boxer takes a break from hosting. If you wish to play. Post a clip on your site. Try to make it 3 minutes or less, then stop by MRM's site say I'm up, with the title of your movie. The topic for this week is: Should have won the Oscar.

In 1949, director Robert Rossen offered the starring role of All the King's Men to Wayne. Wayne refused, believing the script to be un-American in many ways. Broderick Crawford, who eventually got the role, won the 1949 Oscar for best male actor, ironically beating out Wayne, who had been nominated for Sands of Iwo Jima.

This second clip is unrelated to the topic. It's from the movie hell fighters and at the end demonstrates putting a valve on a runaway wellhead.

If you have a few minutes, please see the previous post.

i liked both those movies..and john wayne thru away more roles because he thought he'd 'look bad, unamerican, or was about something he didn't approve of.'...i liked him as an actor..but as a man, a husband and a father..he sucked bit and blew.

Jackie Sue: Isn't that the way with most that work in Hollyweird, they do fine in the fantasy world and tend to mess up the real one.

Heff: I can't imagine why.

thx fer that post Karl-cain't read it from here but will soon as i can---ya has some thoughtful solutions--but can ya tell me why we doan jes' burn it up out at sea afore it comes to shore?

Joanna: It's a little dated, but not a bad movie. It's about "Red Adair" he pioneered controlling runaway oil wells. If you like The Duke, you'll enjoy it.

Aunty Belle: Good question, we have the capability to use some very fine incendiary devices, that we as taxpayers have paid lots of money to develop. Yet they're not being utilized. I believe it is a political decision, not an operational one. There are issues with vessel safety and air quality that must be considered, yet compared to the oil. They are minimal hazards.

I'm glad you stopped by. Enjoy your vacation.

Good evening, Karl,

I just realized I've been remiss in my hosting duties for the next Culinary Smackdown. Please consider this your official invitation to join in.

Hope you have a grand 4th of July weekend - guests and fireworks included - and that you'll be able to participate in the next CS, or at least check out the other entries.

July Smackdown details here: http://eggplanttogo.blogspot.com/2010/06/july-culinary-smackdown-announcement.html

Cordially,

Hellfighters is just about my favorite John Wayne movie. Love it. We've been saying (around my house anyway), where's Red Adair when you need him? He'd have figured out that gulf well incident by now.

Meanwhile, haiku theme for this week is "Summertime and the living is easy"
