Movie Clip Wednesday: Elizabeth Taylor Movie

Howdy it's Wednesday and we all know what that means, time to search through the living hell of YouTube and post a clip to amuse and entertain. Movie Clip Wednesday, hosted by the birthday girl Anonymous Boxer, she's not getting older she's getting better. If you wish to play. Post a clip on your site. Try to make it 3 minutes or less, then stop by Boxer's site say I'm up, with the title of your movie. You can also see who else is playing. And find some very interesting and differing perspectives on a single topic. The topic for this week: Elizabeth Taylor movie. I decided to go with Cleopatra mainly because of the epic scale of the movie. Taylor as Cleopatra with Richard Burton as Marc Anthony and Rex Harrison as Caesar. It won 4 academy awards. Although they were not for acting. In its time it was the highest grossing movie, but it was also the highest costing movie and therefore was considered a financial loss. I'm posting two clips both of them are too long, the first is the trailer and the second is Cleopatra entering Rome. I prefer the second for it shows the extravagance of the movie. But there's very little of Taylor in it. If you have time enjoy them, if not go by Boxers. Wish her Happy Birthday and give her a slap on the butt.

Youtube was better to me this week than in the past, and I nearly went with Cleopatra because I recently read it's STILL the most expensive movie ever produced (when you do the math and bring it to today's numbers, blah, blah.) and I think it's interesting Angelina Jolie was recently picked for the remake?

This movie is where I learned to love eye liner. No joke.

Nice pick and Happy MCW!

Boxer: I enjoyed this story mainly for its basis in Roman history. It's a minor interest of mine. I've never seen a movie with Angelina Jolie in it. If there's a remake of Cleopatra it may be my first.

I'm thinking that you don't put it on quite is thick as she does.

I like Cleopatra for the spectacle of it but didn't think Liz was particularly good.

Over the winter, the Mrs (through her work) scored us tickets to a private dinner and showing of this Cleopatra. The tour was conducted by the head of the University of Pennsylvania's School of Archeology. Everything was from an underwater excavation although they were not 100% sure it was "The" Cleopatra. Apparently, there were 7 Cleopatras (much like the title of Caesar) and old number 7 was the one this movie was based on. You would definitely have liked it.

Happy MCW!

Like Liz, Cleopatra definitely had it goin' on. Power, wealth, great shoes, men falling at those shoes. What's not to love?

Great pick and hope your MCW was a happy one!

Now this is a movie that is begging to be re-made and not in the 1960's epic movie way. She looks fabulous. And I now finally "get" the Richard Burton thing ... I never understood it but looking back at him as a grown woman, well, vavoom, okay? Happy MCW! I'm up over on my page (finally)!

Buzz Kill: I've read a little bit about the excavations at Alexandria, some very interesting finds. From the look of it you got to see quite an impressive show.

Moi: Cleopatra more so than Liz, although from a historical point of view. Cleopatra died before her time in what some would consider a romantic way. Making her I think the more legendary of the two. No offense meant to Ms. Taylor.

Pam: Boxer says they're going to do a remake. I wonder if Brad Pitt will be the Mark Anthony. I don't think he could stand up against Richard Burton.

Aunty Belle: Yes, it should. Nice to see you.

Good choice Karl,
Sorry I'm a little late getting around for a visit. This movie was an absolute in Hollywood extravaganza.
They don't make them like this any more. The Burton Taylor chemistry just sizzles on screen.
happy MCW.

Princess: Better late than never. Your right they don't make them like this any more.
