Movie clip Wednesday: Overrated Academy Award Winner

Good afternoon it's Wednesday and we all know what that means, time to search through the living hell of YouTube and post a clip to amuse and entertain. Movie Clip Wednesday, hosted by Anonymous Boxer. If you wish to play. Post a clip on your site. Try to make it 3 minutes or less, then stop by Boxer's site say I'm up, with the title of your movie. You can also see who else is playing. And find some very interesting and differing perspectives on a single topic. The topic for this week: Overrated Academy Award Winner. This topic kinda goes back to the most overrated film for which I posted avatar and since I didn't want to reuse another movie I decided to pick a different James Cameron film: Titanic is the 1997 film about the 1912 sinking of RMS Titanic. It's another example of Cameron not letting reality get the way of what he wants to do. As someone who has spent lots of time in ice cold water. I can tell you that Kate and Jack would have been all but useless before they ever got up to the deck. The movie was all right but it was over rated. Anyhow enjoy.

Didn't see it but it was definately over-hyped by over-wrought hollyweirders.

I've never seen it, but I'm glad to have your professional assessment of how it would have been impossible to survive much time in waters with ICE BURGS!

I know you're busy, so thanks for playing this week. Happy MCW!

Nothing like a dumb ass romance to ruin a perfectly swell disaster movie.

The thing I hated most about it was miscast Leo. I wanted to jump up and cheer when he finally shut up and slipped beneath the waves.

I thought it was just me that cheered when Leo finally died.

Colour me surprised Karl, you chose a movie with a water theme!

:-)

It and Forest Gump are the 2 dumbest movies I ever saw.

anyone over the age of 15 knows..the boat sinks.

Troll: Yes it was. Cameron rates right up there with the biggest
hollyweirders

Boxer: I'm surprised you haven't seen it, considering Mr. Boxers background in film. Yet several parts of the movie will peg the B/S meter. The time spent in the water below decks is one of them. The water up there can get down to 28°before it freezes.(Because of the salinity) In water that cold even the fittest don't last long.

Busy, yes very, but I still got your back.

Moi: I couldn't have said it better myself.

xl: Well put sir.

Roses: No, you weren't alone.

On the water or on a sand dune and it would still be over rated.

Jackie Sue: Every now and then we agree on something.

I didn't like the story line or DiCaprio at all but I did like the re-creation of the ship compartments. We have a similar ship sitting on the Delaware right now, the SS United States. There's been recent movement to restore it or turn it into a lavish hotel. It's been sitting for around 30 years and I would love to see the interior of it.

Also, the family and I went to a Titanic Museum some years ago and they had a tank of water at 38 degrees that you could stick your arm in. It was so cold it burned.

Happy MCW!

I'se taggin' along wif' ya Karl on this one--blog jinx an' all that.

But really? Can ANYbody think of a less deservin' movie fer an AA?

DiCaprio doan ring no chimes fer me, so, the movie failed as history, as seaworthy, an' as romance. A mucilaginous piece of work.

Still... Happy MCW, Karl.

Hmmm, well now. Interesting choice. I liked it at the time, but agree that Leo is no real leading man. But he wasn't meant to be. He had to be the anti-bad guy (Rose's fiance). Actually liked this on the big screen. It loses a lot on regular TV. But yet, another one I've seen once, no need to see it again.

Hey Karl... Great minds think alike!
I jinxed with you this week... I feel honoured!

I did shed a tear when Leo sank under the briney... Of Joy! knowing that this agonizing overration would soon be over....

Happy MCW.

Buzz Kill: I agree with you, they did a fine job of simulating the original ship. For what they spent to do it, they could've nearly built the original. I'm aware of the plight of the SS United States, it's kind of sad that a ship with such a fine history has been left to languish so. It was one of the first ships to use an aluminum superstructure with a Steel hull.

Try sticking your whole body in it. It can be quite shocking, not to mention the shrinkage.

Aunty Belle: Great minds think alike.

That's what I didn't understand, why it got so many.

He was OK in the movie about Howard Hughes, of than that I haven't thought too much of him.

Pam: I saw this in the theater and had it not been for the grandeur of the ship, I'm likely would not have finished it. I don't think I bother to watch it on a television.

K9: I had forgotten that Forest Gump had won academy awards. Still this one is probably more suitable to me.

Princess: Yes we do.

All: Sorry for the slow reply and not getting around. Seems like this week the more air I put my suit, the faster it's leaking out.
