Movie Clip Wednesday: Best British Comedy

Good morning it's Wednesday and we all know what that means, time to dig into our collective psyches and post a clip to amuse and entertain. It's our weekly installment of Movie Clip Wednesday, hosted by Milk River Madman If you wish to play. Post a clip on your site. Try to make it 3 minutes or less, then stop by MRM's site say I'm up, with the title of your movie. You can also see who else is playing. And find some very interesting and differing perspectives on a single topic. The topic for this week: Best British Comedy. This week was harder that I thought it would be. I looked at several films and narrowed it down to two, Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines and Victor Victoria. After watching the available clips I decided to go with Victor Victoria. It was a 1982 musical comedy starring Julie Andrews James Garner Robert Preston Leslie Ann Warren and Alex Karras. The movie was about a woman who dressed up as a man so that he/she, could play a woman. Yeah I know, I didn't think so either. But we want to see it anyway. It was back in the days when you could sit in a theater without having your eardrums blasted or your night vision ruined by some generation Yo texting "what's up" to one of their buddies. (see Trolls post from yesterday) we enjoyed the movie there were several good dance scenes and if few laugh out loud pieces of slapstick. If you've seen the movie, the trailer pretty well says it all. Please enjoy!

First! I remember really liking "Magnificent Men Flying Machines" movie as a yute.

Learning that "Vic/Vic" came out in 1982 makes me feel OLD!

I'm not usually a fan of musicals that aren't about rock bands, but I loved this movie. I thought Julie Andrews was great and rightfully deserved the Academy award.

Happy Movie Clip Wednesday!

Troll: It was a funny movie, although the clips were as good.

Yes, I know what you mean.

BlazngScarlet: Yes, he was. I'm glad you liked it.

Moi: I looked up the 1982 academy awards, I'm surprise she didn't win. I guess it was Meryl Streep was a hot commodity at the time.

I really enjoyed this movie - it was a good "modern" musical comedy, something rarely done anymore. Or done well. Great pick, Happy MCW!

Doesn't Julie Andres have full frontal nudity in this? Love Garner's mustache.

Oh I loved this movie! So clever! And such an out-of-character role for Julie Andrews. But she was married to Blake Edwards, so she had to have had all this cleverness in her all along. Fantastic clip! And isn't James Garner so handsome in this movie! I have always liked him. He's another one who is underrated ... he shows up in so many movies.

I had also forgotten 'Those Magnificent Men...' a huge favourite from my youth! I was so in love with Orville but I also had a soft spot for the French guy :)

Im not sure Ive ever seen Victor/Victoria - although I remember it because of the Julie Andrews/Blake Edwards thing

I remember seeing this movie oh so long ago and thinking "Julie Andrews is a guy"? Bwahahaha Another movie I didn't realize was British.

Happy MCW!

Madman - You're thinking of S.O.B. whare the only memorable thing about it was Julie Andrews exposing herself.

Boxer: It was a fun film, I fear that musicals will go the way the dinosaur.

MRM: I don't think so, it's been awhile since I've seen the movie. But I don't remember a scene where she's fully exposed. James Garner did look at is best of this movie.

Pam: they both had top performances and yes it was a little racy for Mary Poppins, she should've gotten the Oscar for it.

Joanna: Wasn't it a fun movie? If I could've found a better clip, I would've used it.

If you get a chance to see Victor Victoria, I think you'll enjoy it.

Buzz Kill: Yea, she never looked like a man to me either. I think it was considered British because of Blake Edwards.

I missed MCW thanks to my prang, but I loved Victor/Victoria. Great fun.

Karl said...

Roses: Hopefully that'll never happen again.

There's a sign at the exit of the drop zone where I jump. It reads "Caution driving on the highway is the most dangerous thing you'll do today"

Missed MCW this time around--but stoppin' in to say howdy.

Frezzin' up thar' on yore pond?

Roses said...

Karl, 'drop zone'? 'jump'? What as in, out of a perfectly good aircraft with a bit of silk strapped to your back?

Aunty Belle: You have a good excuse, still my miss your take on the subject. I'll be by the Back Porch, may not make it today.

Roses: Well...yes. Not with silk, with F-111 Nylon.

Roses said...

Karl, you're bonkers, but lovely.

Karl said...

Roses: I can neither confirm or deny that statement.

Looking for something to do this weekend 20 locations all over the UK.

Believe me when I say, I have absolutely no wish to do it. It's not a case of 'oh I'd really like to, but I'm frightened'.

It's a case of: no f**king way.

My life is thrilling enough without jumping out of perfectly good aircraft, thanks very much.
