Movie clip Wednesday: Best Foreign Actor

Milk River Madman is our host he may not want the job but he's stuck with it. And he is doing a fine job. Anonymous Boxer is on hiatus since her revelations in the woods of Georgia. Please hurry back we miss you. If you wish to play. Post a clip on your site. Try to make it 3 minutes or less, then stop by MRM's site say I'm up, with the title of your movie. You can also see who else is playing. The topic for this week is: Best Foreign Actor. Since I'm sure Pam will do Sean Connery and to prove to Buzz that I do occasionally watch films that aren't black and white. I decided to go with Peter O'Toole. Peter O'Toole was born in 1932, with some sources giving his birthplace as Connemara, County Galway, Ireland, and others as Leeds, in West Riding of Yorkshire, England, where he grew up. Either way he wasn't born in the United States, so I think he qualifies.

I'm posting three clips today the first is from Lawrence of Arabia filmed in 1962 a truly epic movie. The second is a clip from The Lion in Winter, he and Katharine Hepburn were excellent in this movie. And the third Impossible Dream from Man of La Mancha, I included for two reasons one I've been accused of tilting at windmills more than once and Sophia Loren is in it. Which will give you a hint for who I'll pick, when this topic comes up for actress. If you have the time please enjoy them.

Very interesting choice! An actor's actor, really, isn't he? There is a movie he was in during the early 90's, where he played a drunk ol' swashbuckling actor meant to be on a live tv show, and the story revolved around the young man who had to keep him corraled (sp?). Just lots of fun, that movie. Anyway, NO NO NO, I didn't go with Sean Connery. He's too old for me. But I went with someone who could have succeeded him as Bond in a very believable fashion!

I almost went with O'Toole but haven't watched enough of his movies. I will say that "My Favorite Year" is one of my all time favorite movies and he was spectacular. Nominated for best actor in that movie. Hard to believe he's never won. Happy MCW.

Love, love, love, love, LOVE Peter O'Toole! I've seen Lawrence of Arabia four times, beginning to end, and that's saying a lot because it's one long-ass movie. He was so absolutely beautiful and spectacularly great in it. One of my all-time favorite actors. Happy MCW!

awesome, Karl.

Lion in Winter is my all out favorite fro O'Toole an' when I first heered he wasd the lead, I din't think casting got it right--but they did!

Of course, ya git yoreself Kate as the Queen an the movie has to be a soaring star. The story is an incredible one in the first place.

I also really like Man of La Mancha--as much fer Espana as fer the character. Heh.

Great choice.

Peter O'Toole was a great choice. I'm with the Madman on My Favorite Year. But whenever I think of Lawrence of Arabia, I actully think of the scene from The Hollywood Knights where officer Clark makes up his own words to the LoA theme - Lawrence, Lawrence of Arabia...he was an English guy...he came to fight the Turkish...

Yeah, I know - there's something wrong with me.

Happy MCW!

Pam: I believe he was supposed to be playing an aging Errol Flynn. Yes you're right, he looks like he could do Bond well.

MRM: My Favorite Year, was a very funny film. To receive an honorary award for lifelong contribution doesn't seem to do him justice.

Moi: Lawrence of Arabia is such a fine film. Although, I can't imagine watching it in the theater, it must've had an intermission.

K9: Somehow, I think there's a story about Sophia Loren, that may be interesting to hear.

Jackie Sue: Lion in Winter was my favorite of the 3. They get your blood pressure up, do they?

Princess: Don't miss My Favorite Year, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Aunty Belle: Yes, it was a good story and they did a good job of making it historically accurate. Katharine Hepburn was a soaring star, she earned every bit of the acclaim. I can't bring to mind a single picture that she wasn't excellent in.

I've never been to Spain. I would like to try it sometime.

Buzz Kill: Don't worry, it will be our little secret. We won't tell anyone.
