Yesterday at the Blue Angels party, I remembered Buzz Kill had worked at the YP basin. I took this shot with him in mind. Things happen pretty fast when these guys fly by so they're a little distant and I'm no photographer. If you look behind the middle mast. See them, I'd estimate between 250 and 300 knots. They're not very loud yet, but 2 seconds after they shot was taken. Oh boy was it loud.

I can see them Karl! Very loud too but so cool!

So, I've posted the new culinary throwdown theme if you care to join in! Have a great holiday weekend.

LaDiva: On my way.

I am touched Karl. I haven't seen these boats in like 5 years and they still look the same. I can't quite make out the hull numbers, but I can see the radar arrays and life boats that we put on every single one. And the view I had of the Blue Angels was from those bridges. When they would come tearing down the Severn River like that, I'd get goosebumps.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

How cool you took this for Karl! I'd love to see a Blue Angels show.

Buzz Kill: You had one of the best seats in the house. And if you still see your equipment on board, you pat yourself on the back for a job well done.

Moi: It's a truly impressive show, although I think in your area, your more likely to see: The Thunderbirds. They're not as good as the Blue Angel. (Air Force you know) Yet still very entertaining.

i was raised in the air force..I was so used to air planes taking off landying flying over etc. that when i was little i took it for granted..it wasn't till i grew up and away from it that i realized how wonderful it was.

Man.

I bet that WAS loud.

Karl said...

Jackie Sue: Funny how we take things for granted till they're gone.

Heff: Actually, I've done this enough times to know to wear ear protection.

I love seeing the Blue Angels! They used to come here for an air show from time to time. And Orkney? I got as close to Orkney as the ferry boat from John O'Groats in Scotland once ... you going soon?

I see 'em!

What a fun day ya had, KArl--we used to have a Blue Angel show down thisaway onc'. Like, totally, awesome as the young'uns say.

Boats are nice too.

Have a great weekend.

Pam: Watching them fly at Tinker would be great. There's nothing to obstruct your view. We're hoping to go to Orkney in the fall. Although, I'm having some scheduling issues that may postpone it to Christmas time.

Aunty Belle: I did have a great weekend and I hope yours was better than mine.

We had an airshow recently and only one of those flew overhead... two seconds later, the sound hit. To have that many together...!!!

Karl said...

Joanna: They can be very loud. Yet, with the proper ear protection, it's wonderful show.

every so often some kind of super fast jet comes over the cohuttas -and kind of low too. i recognize the sound when they are way off and if i am quick enough i can look up in time to see them streak by and then the after sound......its exhilirating!

We live about sixty miles from Edwards AFB - the noise from those planes is unimaginable. They sure fascinate the boys in my family though!

Stopping by to say hi. I love boats and boating. Very nice pic.

K9: It's a sound no commercial jet can make and exhilarating is an apt description.

Gucci Mama: Welcome! You may be familiar with some of my old stomping grounds, China Lake ring a bell. Jet noise and testosterone, they go together.

JAG: Hello to you and welcome! Boats and boating, so do I. Thank you.

Seen them twice and the T-birds twice. Love it.

Although, I grew up next to a fighter base and I'd love to hear trans-sonic booms again for the show -- but they won't let them do that :-(
