Anonymous Boxer is our host. If you wish to play. Post a clip on your site. Try to make it 3 minutes or less, then stop by Boxer's site say I'm up, with the title of your movie. The topic for this week is: Science Fiction

When I was a kid there was this show called: Science Fiction Theater, it was great. Mostly B movies, but sometimes a classic. The Day the Earth Stood Still was one of those classics. It was well made and a pretty believable story. Well at least for a little kid. My brother and I would use the quote "klaatu barada nikto" for about a week after seeing it. Please enjoy.

My brothers (and husband and HIS brothers) loved this movie. I think it was made even more interesting by the advances in space exploration of the time? Our house was full of Apollo mission toys/magazine/etc.

Happy MCW.

(I hope your time with the bubbles was good.)

Never seen it but have heard of it. I love the drama in the voice of the radio guy and his hat. My dad wore hats like that. Happy MCW.

Lot of "antique" black and white movies chosen. Interesting.

Boxer: I believe this movie was an attempt by Hollywood to try and send a message to stop the arms race. Of course it didn't work. What it did, was increase the interest of a lot of young folks like us, in space.

Bubbles were good. I generally feel better underwater, than I do on land. I have crew, they joke that all my real friends are underwater. Although, I told the Mrs. I would take her to dinner and go dancing tonight and I must admit my batteries are running a little low.

Princess: It's always a pleasure to make a walk down memory lane a good one.

MRM: If you get a chance, watch it, it's a lot of fun.

Jackie Sue: Sounds like a fun game and I'm glad you liked it.

Heff: There's a lot to be said for black and white films. So much of the new stuff is just a flash and bang. With no real content.

Y'all have good evening all try to get around tomorrow.

OH! We used to watch science fiction theater too! Seemed about the same as newsreels of Sputnik. Heh.

Great pick, Karl--fun memories.

happy MCW!

Wish I could watch the trailer, but Sci Fi terrifies me, especially this kind of space movie. See my page for the reason why! ha. I'll watch your clip next time around, I promise!

Moi: Gee, I thought he was so neat.

Bama Trav: Working on it.

Aunty Belle: Newsreels are still fun to watch.

Pam: No problem. Will stop by asap.

I too know about this movie but have never seen it. The "klaatu barada nikto" line was used in Army of Darkness (one of the Evil Dead movies) and I never realized until now where it came from. Most of the sodiers have pistols too - what's up with that? Bwahaha

Happy MCW!

Buzz Kill: I've never heard of Army of Darkness, but Hollywood is Hollywood. They can screw anything up. I wonder what they spent on all those 1911's
